And besides I really like the blue one... Shallow?

I was interested in a blue one here in the US a few weeks ago and the only ones I could locate was a used one on Amazon.com and a couple on Ebay. Some people have reported still finding 505's in their local Target or other stores but there were none available in my area. I already have a red sony 505 and love it but I had problems with it a few weeks ago and was afraid it would die and so I wanted a backup. I just got the red one in May but can't imagine doing without it now.

I ended up getting a silver one from Sears.com but they have since delisted them. You could get a silver one in the UK and put one of those decal skins stickers on it. They have some gorgeous designs and you can buy on ebay or Amazon.com searching on "decal skin sticker". I bought one for my red sony but then didn't think it would look right with the red buttons. However, it should be lovely with the silver buttons. Actually, the silver looks pretty nice just plain, much nicer than I expected from the pictures. It's rather elegant. I got a the black Sony deluxe cover from Amazon.com and it looks great together. As far as books, I usually purchase as Microsoft reader (lit) if available and use calibre to convert to lrf. Calibre does a really nice job on the conversion. I set the font to 10 which may be too large for some people but it works for me most of the time on the small setting. If my eyes are tired I change it to medium. I generally purchase drm free from Fictionwise but I understand there are some accessability issues in Europe. If drm is an issue convert lit gui can solve that problem nicely.

Best of luck with your search.
