The problem isn't so much the technology, but the cost of the technology. To keep the costs down, so that readers are affordable to the masses (which is how companies make there money and stay in business, after all), companies like Sony and Amazon can't use the latest and greatest developments in the technological arena. They have to go with something that does a good job and can be cheaply manufactured and then sold to the greatest amount of consumers. That explains Sony's decision to update the 700 to the 600. It may not be perfect, but it meets my needs very well.

I agree, the cost of capacitive touch and or wacom stylus technology would add more to the cost of the device. My position is that rather than compomise the intended use of the device, I would (and this is totally my opinion) leave touch out of the device until such time as it can cost effectively be integrated without effecting the clarity of the reader.
With regards to the amount of discussions I have commented in - there are more than a few, just shy of a bunch and far short of an avalanche. To be fair my comments come second in frequency and with more variation than a certain other commenter with Lupine tendencies...
