Maybe but I'm not sure if I'd like to see books with very long lines.
One ebook I bought recently (I think it was "The Sword of Shannara") has the exact same layout on my PRS-505 than on the paperback version. The number of words per line is identical (it even has big margins). You just have more pages on the ebook version because the pages are shorter.
With correct use of font sizes and small margins, many public domain books have even more words per line than their paperback version.
It makes sense to have a new device that is longer instead of wider unless you want to emulate larger books like hardcover copies instead of paperback.
