Does this sound right to you.And lastly i don't know where i go on the Q7 to find the un-install function or the file name to un-insatll it.cos on windows it would be the "Add or remove " programme and all the list of programmes would be there to add or remove. but being a Linux virgin, i'm like being a hindu in a slaugther house and don't know whats going on here! any help would be gratefully recieved. On last thing if thgis makes any sense.The sim card, if i haven't registedred it yet with T-mobile, would that affect my connection? its just a thought?

I believe the drivers etc are built into the kernel so can't be un-installed. There is a very good chance that if you SIM is not registered it wont allow you to connect, so get it registered soon

In the meantime connect your modem, wait a few seconds then in evilvte type "dmesg".
On my Q7 right near the end I have entries that read as follows;
drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for GSM modem (1-port)
option 1-1:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
option 1-1:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
usbcore: registered new interface driver option
drivers/usb/serial/option.c: USB Driver for GSM modems: v0.7.1
scsi 3:0:0:0: CD-ROM HUAWEI Mass Storage 2.31 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
This will show if the modem is registered by your device.
