[QUOTE=elsussman;593164the other book is Don Quixote....someone ( I don't know who) said you should read Quixote 3 times in your life...in your youth... middle age and then old age...well I have read it twice and am holding off on the third as my way of denying my approaching elder status.... I am saving for that occasion the Edith Grossman translation which I have as ebook-naturally) on my phone[/QUOTE]
That's a really interesting thought I hadn't heard before, but it rings true in a way. I wonder, if you don't mind me being nosy, how much time elapsed between your first two readings, and did you notice any differences between the experiences?
Also, if you are interested, one of my absolute favorite books is a novella called City of Glass by Paul Auster (the first of his New York Trilogy). It has an interesting discussion about halfway through about Don Quixote and the authorship of the text-within-the-text. It's a relatively quick read and in my opinion very entertaining, as long as you aren't put off by a little surrealism/open-endedness (is that a word - probably not).
