If it was a broken glass substrate, the line would not be perfectly straight and horizontal, nor would it be exactly half way down the screen, and nor would the unresponsive half be plain white.

So it's a problem with the electronics controlling the screen, or with the cable to the screen, but not a crack in the glass of the screen.
