Wikipedia is not, was never, and will never be a reliable and ultimate source of information. Yes, it's really useful, but it should never be taken too seriously, and should always remain merely the first step when searching for information.
And languages do evolve to stay alive, they need to adapt themselves to their users, not the other way around, otherwise they die, in this world of communication more then ever. Rigidity is just not an option.
