How can Apple (iTunes) know what programs you have on your computer so that it "will play nice with there software" It called testing and more testing. That's what companies do when they sell you a very expensive device that requires the use of their software to be useable. Sony has a long track record of putting out first rate hardware and then just slapping together some totally crap software to control it. The first thing I do with a new Vaio is remove any software with Sony in the title.
