The Sony cases are made by Targus in the US. I'm pretty sure they are assembled by hand, which would account for the occasional misalignment of the attachment "ring".

As I say, mine's reasonable - it's misaligned by about 5mm between the top and bottom, but the case still "covers" the Reader completely and the magnets work fine.

I've not heard any complaints recently of misaligned cases - perhaps they've fixed the problem?
