Try it. It's not what you think. The large arrows skip from story to story. It's quite inefficient since you probably are not interested in every story. It would be quicker to scan headlines (RSS) and choose the stories you want.
Also, the page that loads does not have the complete story on it. Just one page worth. You then have to click a link (load a new page) to go to the source and read the complete story.
The only advantage that I can see is that the stories graphically look nice. They are laid out print fashion rather than web fashion and so they look attractive. Of course this is a step backward for many reasons (accessibility to the blind, personal style sheets, etcetera). And doesn't take advantage of whatever unique geography your monitor has (mine is a laptop -- wide, but short)
