This evening when the Muffin Man picked me up, he informed me that his parents' house had been broken into today. The thieves took a large-screen TV and a netbook. They must have been in a hurry, because the house is loaded with portable electronics. (Perhaps they were intimidated by all the tangled wires.) They are feeling quite unsettled, as you all might guess, but evidently one neighbor was able to give the police the time (they had assumed all the pounding was my father-in-law working on the house again), and another neighbor, driving by, got a description of the car and 3 digits of the license plate. So I suspect these particular thieves will be caught. As there has evidently been a rash of such incidents in the region lately, perhaps this will be a lead to more arrests than just the idiots who broke into this house.
that is really scary. there were several break-ins in my building a few years ago, it turned out one of them happened while i was at home (directly under the appartment being broken into) but i didn't realise it wasn't the neighbors. it's really unsettling to think of that happening so nearby and i always feel really nervous afterwards for a while. i hope the thieves are caught.

shel, i'm so relieved to hear that the police caught the person they were looking for ! i am sure all of us will breathe easier now, especially you.

On a completely unrelated and rather frivolous note, earlier today I was researching tools to create original avatars, and I posted a thread about it here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56515

So far the thread has had 45 views and no comments, making me wonder what I've done wrong. Is there less interest in this topic than I had thought? Or is it just that everyone glosses past the stickies? (I know I often do.)
maybe they all read the thread and then were in such a hurry to make avatars they ran off without taking the time to post first.
