As most (all ?) of us expected, it's a 300. I'm a bit disappointed because it's not what I thought I ordered and it's not the good deal I thought it was making but I like it anyway.
A 6" would have been easier for me to hold but I'm satisfied with the 5", I find it easy enough to read using the 2nd font size.
I wouldn't say it's heavy but the weight seems to be concentrated in the middle (battery position ?) so the center of gravity makes it feel a bit odd when I hold it but I'm sure I'll get use to that quickly. I can only imagine I would feel it more with a bigger one like the 505.
Since this is the first time I ever hold/use/see an eReader I find the screen doesn't reflect light as much as paper does and the characters aren't as black, they're more "grayish". When I read about 8 gray scales in the specs I thought these were selectable and that I had a choice of how light/dark the letters would appear but I don't see it anywhere in the menu so I can only assume that it has 8 levels of gray when displaying pictures. All this makes it another good reason to keep it since, according to others, the contrast is better on the 300 than the 505.
I only looked at the reader so far. Now I'm gonna get the rest of the stock out of the box, connect it to my computer and download books.
I'll post back later if I have more comments but I can say right now that I'm not impressed with Sears. First, their web site shows wrong information, second, they don't offer a choice of color, I got the silver one. If I had chosen a 300 from the start I would have bought a blue one........but that's not enough to return it.
