Amazon just don't want to help because it can be done. Verizon don't register stolen phones. If you buy a use lock Verizon cell phone, you can ask the owner for the EIN number so you can call the provider to make sure it's not a stolen phone or the EIN is clear. Why not brick the Kindle and before someone buys it, you can ask for the serial number to check to make sure that it's a usable product. Since cell phone companies begin to implement this structure; most lost cell phone are returned.
