Can you read OTHER epubs with your 505? No?

What you most likely need, then, is a firmware update. I had to do that to mine when I got it because I was doing the same as you -- 'wtf, how is it not reading epub?'

Firmware is available from the Sony website, and following their instructions, it was simple and easy enough.
