When we bought out house, Tim's mom brought over a pineapple top that she had rooted in a glass of water. I potted that baby up in a dishpan, knowing it would get big, and put it in the sunroom. It grew and grew and GREW until it was 6 feet from leaf tip to leaf tip. Finally, after 5 yrs, something happened: A pinkish glow developed down in the middle of the leaves. Then suddenly that thick stalk shot up and a pineapple grew. We were soooo surprised! And it was the best pineapple we ever had, fresh off the plant. Then the plant shriveled up and died. I need to root me another pineapple top!
