My favorite cookbooks are series called "Gooseberry Patch". They collect recipes from all over (thought it does seem like most are from the American Midwest) and bring them together and each book has a different theme. The recipes aren't from professional chefs but everyday people who understand that most people don't have a lot of time for cooking.
