It depends on what your local library's check out period is. With epub, you get a choice of taking the books out for the full period, or 'tweaking' the checkout date....Once the check out period is over, the book 'closes' automatically. No muss , no fuss.
Each library has its own 'library' of ebooks. If you have a local library card, go online, and checkout their ebook section. If you have a Kindle, you'd need to check out books in mobipocket format. If you have a Sony, you would use the epub format.
