It was very frightening - a big magnesium flash that blinded me at first (I'm not even exaggerating!).

Thanks Patricia, but this oven is close to twenty years old, it would probably cost more to repair than to buy another one. My brother bought it used a couple years ago, his girlfriend thought it was garbage and threw it out, so my parents recuperated it for me. I think it lived it's life...and went out with a bang!
I'm currently looking at new models, Sears has some that are affordable. Next month I'll buy one, and in the mean time, I'll try to find someone who can lend me a small table oven toaster, and I think I can safely use the top of Oldie for soups and pasta.

I'll dream of nasty appliances that are trying to kill me tonight...
