I forgot about that until you mentioned it! I remember thinking that was very cool and I wished for something like it. Ha, and now I do! Science fiction rules!

There's an article in the October-November Asimov's talking about science fiction and technology. She refers to a book, Physics of the Impossible, which posits that there are three types of tech in SF --

Class I - Techologies which are impossible today, but don't violate laws of physics

Class II - Tech which sits at the edge of our understanding, which may take thousands of years to eventuate

Class III - Breaking the law of known physics

Some of the things she mentions in the Class I variety are cool, like invisibility cloaks and whatnot, but if this article'd been written twenty years ago it would have been e-readers, for sure!
