In "Foundations Edge," by Isaac Asimov, The Foundation sends Councilman Trevize and Scientist Pelorat on a mission. Pelorat is amazed that his entire library of books fits on "one small chip" that he could insert into a reader.
This book was written in 1991 - The year after Windows 3.0 was first shipped. Sometimes you have to wait a REALLY long time for a vision to happen.
