People might be interested in this progress report, which may have implications for the timing of the firmware release.
About the middle of June, around the same time as the Paris meeting I broke the screen on my Cybook and sent it to Paris for repair. I specifically asked them to upgrade it to the new firmware so that I could read ePub.
I've had only one direct response (after a lot of nagging) to the effect that the Cybook had arrived and they would work on it. There was some second hand indication that they would consider upgrading with the new firmware as I requested.
A few days ago I received a tracking report from Fed Ex that the Cybook was on it's way back to me. There had not been anything from Bookeen and no discussion of cost, which I understand to be the usual procedure. I sent an email to the Bookeen person named on the Fed Ex email, but have had no reply.
The Cybook arrived today. The screen has been fixed. The firmware appears to be the same as it was when I sent it (Boo Reader version 1.2 build 802) and the PID is the same. There is no mention of folders, and it reads mobipocket but not ePub.
I had hoped that they were keeping my Cybook while they fixed their firmware, and that once that was done they'd install the new firmware. But they did not. I wonder if they have given up on fixing the firmware.
Regards, Alex
