But not a bad theory. With iPod touch, you can purchase from Amazon. 90% of their books is a modification of Mobipocket and can be stripped from DRM. So you can convert your books and later use them on whatever unit you may have then.
But: Reading eBooks on iPhone/iPod drains the battery very quickly. You won't make the >> 10 hours of eInk devices, not even close.
