The thread Two Trilogies on Kindle links to several AZW ebooks and I noticed for the first time that under Product Details they are all marked:

I have not seen this before, but I spot checked about half a dozen DRM-free AZW ebooks and almost all of them now have this entry. "Unlimited" definitely means DRM-free. In other words you can rename these files .mobi (or .prc) and read them on any device that supports MOBI. There might still be DRM-free AZW's that are not marked "Unlimited", my spot checking was not definitive but seemed to suggest that this might be the case.
