I've notice a disturbing trend too at Amazon - many/most/a heck of a lot of newly published SciFi and mysteries are being launched in Kindle format at $13.74 - $14.74, or thereabouts (see The City and the City), even if the books don't have a hardcover version first. The price then SLOWLY falls, often up & down, to the coveted 9.99 point. It's as if:
1. Amazon is testing the pricing waters to find a higher price point than 9.99 that buyers will accept.
or
2. The Amazon computers have a will of their own,
or
3. Who has any idea what is going on there?
