One I would take (and it has been on my reader since it was first posted because it is so good and fits so many reading situations) is Harry's Omnibus of Sherlock Holmes.
Among the material I would have are works by Voltaire, Gunter Grass, Asimov, Heinlein, the
Harvard Classics series, Charles Dickens, Sherwood Anderson, St. Augustine, Mark Twain, Anton Chekhov, Ayn Rand, H. Rider Haggard, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Anthony Burgess, John Steinbeck, and a copy of the
Bible.
