Sorry to pop-up right out of nowhere (and yet without the PRS-600, for the moment), but isn't it possible that the battery just needs calibration? Basically, do a couple of complete charge/complete draining of it. I don't know exactly why the interaction between power usage/batttery firmware/physical battery have to do that, but usually works quite well. Happened with electronics as wide as: iBook, MacBook Pro, Aspire One, EEEPcs, iPods of various species, a Walkman, cell phones of all persuasions, a Cybook Gen3, curiously not on the PRS-505; it might exactly have been what happened to Lily's Kindle 2.
