I've never had that, no matter how big or graphic intensive the PDFs.
Maybe you can link to one of those PDFs.
10 or even 4 seconds per page really is disastrous.
I read lots of commercial PDFs, pure text though. On those, it's roundabout 1 second - more or less the same for all the units (the new ones being slightly faster).
