It is possible that if the Reader is connected to the computer and the red light is not on (meaning not charging) it could be draining the battery. Sometimes certain usb ports do not supply enough power to charge the Reader. Try a different port. The simplest solution is to purchase a Sony PSP charger. If you live in the U.S., check Game Stop and ask for a used/refurbished PSP Charger as they typically run $7 - $8 USD. The wall chargers also charge the Reader quicker than the usb cable.
