that's infuriating. i'm sorry you had so much annoyance.

Then I decided to have a quiet read, only to discover that the screen controller on my Sony 505 is faulty. There's a small, perfectly rectangular blank area on the top right of the screen. I've tried recharging, also soft and hard resets with no result.
It's been sitting on a sideboard with nothing else in the vicinity, and I definitely haven't dropped it or treated it roughly.
My partner bought me the device for Christmas, so it's only eight months old. He didn't keep the receipt but I've got his credit card statement, so it's off to Waterstone's in the morning. I doubt whether I'll get much joy from them, but it's worth a try.
oh no !!! that's horrible news !! i really hope that waterstone's will replace it for you, there is no reason that it should spontaneously fail after only 8 months !! please do let us know how it goes patricia, i've got my fingers crossed for you.

sparrow, you have my utmost sympathy for the wind chimes, not that i necessarily have anything against wind chimes specifically (none of my neighbors have any) but i do know all too well what it's like to have noisy neighbors and i know how it can drive you CRAZY. earplugs are my recommendation, they're not a perfect solution but they can help. alternately, noise-cancelling headphones with music you like, but sometimes all you want is quiet...
