There are few things better in life than German pastries. At least that has been my experience with the pastries made around Nuremberg. For a people supposedly known for heavy beers, heavy sausages, and sauerkraut their pastries are pure, unadulterated, heaven. I have not found anything like them here in the US. Light, delicate, fluffy, very lightly dusted with powdered sugar, somehow balancing the dough, the fruit, and the sweet sugar in harmony.
Donuts are all well and fine but German pastries, oh my, this is another class of delight entirely.
(Where's that cravings thread?)
