Also, now that ebook sales are being taken into account on the NYT bestseller lists, Kindle (and other) sales will be a significant factor in how long you get to stay there (and thus, on profits). If other readers prove as popular as the Kindle with Amazon buyers, 35-50% of all bestseller sales (where all the big profit is, for publishers, these days) will be ebooks. Authors without ebooks will see a vast decrease in sales (although perhaps a slight uptick in library orders).
