I just tried several standard USB-mini cables (I was actually not using the suppkied one anyway...) and they all fit. There was one that was a bit of a close fit, but it also worked with some carefully applied force.
So, while there might be some cables about that don't fit or only bareyl fit, most should be OK as far as I can tell from my collection...
