Update on this: Bookeen support e-mailed me today. E-mail states:
This issue has been identified. The Development Team is working on resolving it. The solution will be integrated into the coming firmware upgrade.

So far, I've been really happy with my Opus. I'm so glad I gave up the Kindle and got the Opus instead. I'm not really holding my breath for the firmware upgrade because I can live with the freezing issue. I'm just glad they're letting me know what's going on.
