Okay, so I went down to the Sony Style store to take a look at the 600 (and the 300.)
I was very very surprised. The 600's contrast is nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. The videos are providing (in my mind) a very skewed sense of the difference. Yes, there is a difference, but the 600's contrast level is very readable.

The screen is a bit more reflective than the 300 (Which was the only thing that was available to compare.) I was mildly concerned about the bright light reflection, but I realized that the 300 does the same thing. Any surface that's not deeply matte black is going to reflect a bright, direct light.

So after playing around with it for a bit, I decided that I want a 505 rather than a 600. Mostly though, it's not because of the screen. It's because of the interface. I don't like the touch interface very much. I'm used to the sensitivity of my iPhone. The 600's screen takes a lot more force (but still, not much). I know it sounds like a stupid, silly thing, but I'm being honest here. Writing and typing on the 600 takes a similar amount of effort, and that's not what I want.

I looked at the 300, and only two things keep me from it:
a) No Sangria Red
b) No memory slot...
In spite of these I'm tempted to go for this one. I like the look and the feel of the 300. Then again, the 300 is really just a compact 505 (although, with a much faster screen - which I love)

Anyway, My wife is planning on getting me at reader for Christmas, and I'm going to tell her to find me a Red 505 somewhere. Bottom line: Don't believe the videos. Go see it and use it for yourself.
