One of my mom's favorite sayings, "Kill them with kindness!" It use to work better but now everybody just thinks you're being sarcastic.

When I had to deal with an irksome parent of one of my students, I went out of my way to be kind and understanding (while making sure that I had documentation to cover my derriere

). By the end of the meeting, they were usually apologizing to me for "the misunderstanding".
