Prefixes seem more useful to me, you can filter on them if you want to see only threads on the 300.

There are only a couple of differences between the readers: note taking and its synchronization (600/700), OS support (500 vs the rest), developing, size/form for accessories.

For developing and accessories prefixes can be introduced in the subforums, the main Sony forum probably doesn't even need prefixes.
