This is the crux of the article for me - the online music industry, and now ebook industry, is consumer driven. Distributors that partner with publishers and institute restrictive practices will lose. Distributors that champion readers, which after all are their customers, will win.
It will be fascinating to watch Sony's attempt to re-enter the market with DRM'ed ePub books, crippled 3G access, etc.
