Here's an interesting article on CNET with an interview with the guy that founded MP3.COM in the late '90s. Regardless of what you might think of the guy, he has some VERY interesting things to say, particularly if, as you read the article, you substitue 'books' for 'music' and 'ebook' for 'MP3'...

Particularly interesting are his comments on the outcome of 'closed' vrs. 'open' formats, and "the Sony effect" (in light of the recent Sony ePUB conversion).
