Then I tried to DL the book on my laptop and I installed ADE on that also. But I couldn't open the ebook because I had to "authorize" both ADE editions for the desktop and laptop. So after uninstalling/reinstalling ADE about 20 times on both computers, I've managed to not read the book on either computer.

Are you authorizing ADE to the same Adobe ID that you originally installed it with? Or did you create a new ID.
Keep in mind, your Adobe ID is sort of like the "password" to the ebook. If you install ADE and authorize it to a different account you would be able to read that ebook. It "may" work if you re-download it from the store with the newly authorized ADE, but the store may not allow that. This is because it would look like you are trying to use the same purchase with two Adobe ID's and that is basically a violation of the one ID/user for the book.
