We have a Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) and the hair is an issue. What's worse is trying to give him a bath. The only place big enough is a bathtub and it takes forever (at least an hour) to dry him. The same could be said for the Golden Retriever we had when Shannon and Zack were younger, although it wasn't as bad as it is with the Sheltie. We also have 2 Shih-tsus who are much easier to groom but took forever to house-train. The are notoriously stubborn, but now they are a great addition to the family. The only problem with them is that they have to be trimmed every couple of months.

I would get another Golden but would not get another Sheltie. I love him, but he's very vocal and doesn't like it when we leave the house.
