Notice the apostrophe in Hawai`i is backwards, that is actually a letter in the Hawaiian language called the ʻ`okina sometimes called the "glottal stop" and is pronounce as a catching of the breath. That is how some Hawai`ian words can have no consonants. For instance the town I live in is named Aiea or `Aiea. The `okina serves as the consonant.
