I am re-reading the Peculiar Crimes Unit series of off-beat mysteries by Christopher Fowler. If you haven't discovered them, they are real gems, set in London featuring two detectives in their seventies that won't retire, and a supporting cast of misfits. The PCU is given outlandish/fantastic cases to solve - involving the alleged occult or fiendish. Think of X-Files (the humor as well as the spookiness) with Scully & Mulder refusing to retire.
