Vampires have been "sexy" for a while now - however, what was once edgy and new has since become clichéd and annoying.

I've never considered vampires sexual in the least - and books which focus on their sexuality generally leave me cold. I feel the same way about historical romances - western or otherwise - they leave me cold. My partner gobbles them up like candy - she'll read two or three in a weekend.

So for me, they're just books that some people like and others don't. They sell well (can't escape the former bookseller mindset) so that's more than enough reason for people to write them.
