Interesting. I didn't think the default file system on the Sony was NTFS. Did you format your Sony using a Windows machine at some time? Mac can't mount NTFS volumes (out of the box).

I think there is a "reformat" menu option on the Sony. You should use that. Keep in mind, this will be destructive and you will loose all your current books on the device. But, I am pretty sure the default file system will be FAT32 which the Mac can mount.

If that doesn't work or isn't available, you should be able to "Erase" with Disk Utility specifying it to create a FAT32 file system.
