I can second this. Last night I left my Reader plugged into my computer, which was copying a few gigs of files onto it (long story). In the morning, I found the computer had written about 2GB, then hit a lot of I/O errors—and the Reader's battery was dead. Apparently, writing to the SD card takes more power than the USB cable can provide.

have an AC cable, but I thought that was just for charging faster; it never occurred to me that "slower" might be "in reverse".)
