Last night though, I actually had a good night's sleep (first in a week). It wasn't improving symptoms (as my waking, hacking, slime-coated cough confirmed) but, I suspect, the codeine working it's poppy-magic on me.

I've got a screamingly bad allergy to codeine. The type of allergy that lands you in the ER with symptoms of shock. Circulatory system begins to shut down, lungs begin to shut down .... highly unpleasant. Count your lucky stars you can take the damn stuff. And get well, dammit!!
