OK, but I have about 150 books (internal memory) and still have about half my memory free. That covers everything I might want to read in the next 6-8 months, plus room to add newly-borrowed books *and* most of what I've read in the past severla months in case I want to "go back" (which I rarely do, if ever). Still no memory card, and no system gacking here. Works for me!
I guess if the memory card hassle gets to be too much, the people using them might actually revert to just putting the books they might actually read on their Reader. (What a concept!
