I've actually connected my Reader (505) to a computer that was not sleeping and did not have the Library sw installed. It drained the battery.

Charging via the power port is *much* faster and more reliable! All it takes (if you want to charge from a computer) is a PSP data/power cable, for under $5.

I'm already pretty sure I'll be giving my 505 to my gf to replace her 500 (and access the local library to borrow ebooks). I honestly don't know which new model I want, though. Both are appealing for different reasons!
