I wondered about using it for maps too - it could be really useful, because the display is a lot bigger than that of a GPS module, and clearly visible in sunshine. I don't know how the maps would look on 4 shades of grey though, it would have to be a simple map.
Well the easiest way to find out is taking a portion of map as a picture and trying it on the device. I might actually get around to do it
