While I understand the 700 had a light feature, I also understood this to have degraded the image quality. This was one of the reasons why I did not purchase this model.
I can't see why this would be so difficult, really. I mean, the 505's lighted cover works extreemly well. I think the main reason why it does work, is because of the added screen to increase the diffusion of the light.

I have the 505 lighted cover, which I bought before the 700 came out, and honestly I don't care for it either. Not only is the quality iffy, but the underside of the light wedge scratches very easily and then you have the glowing specks all over the screen. Yuck.
Now I just keep the lights on and if I'm sharing a room with anyone I leave it to them to put on an eyemask.
